Panko bread EN
Panko is the Japanese term for bread crumbs from white bread. They become very crispy when fried and can be found in supermarkets and shops of Asian products, but they are too expensive!
However, it is very easy to make at home and we always have in our cupboard the only ingredient we need to make it, which is white bread.
So 200g of homemade panko will cost us 0,60€ while its price in Greek Asian supermarkets is 3.24€.
We will remove the crust of about 12 slices of toast bread (about 200gr) and we will put them in small quantities in a small blender.
We have to use our blender intermittently and for short periods of time so that we do not mash the bread but rather have it cut into small pieces. Our bread should be fluffy because if it is dry it will become powder.
When we have grated all the bread, we will spread it in a shallow pan lined with baking paper and we will bake it at 150°C for about 15' or until it dries. It needs a little attention because it can very easily get burnt and we just want it dry.
When it cools, store it in a bag or glass jar that closes tightly.
